Beschreibung
Corduroy has been argued out of fashion three times in forty years. It has outlasted every argument.
The fabric is the argument. A ribbed pile catches light along the wale, so the surface shifts from charcoal to graphite as you move through a room. This dress uses that quality rather than fighting it: the pile is dense enough to hold its shape through a long day, and the single-breasted placket runs the full length of the body, giving the eye a vertical line to follow. A lapel collar frames the neck without demanding a necklace.
Construction matters more than the label here. The cut is deliberately loose through the body, with a dropped waist that lets the skirt fall in a clean A rather than gripping the hip. Full-length sleeves taper slightly at the cuff. Knee-length hem, side movement, no slit to manage on stairs. Because it behaves like a long shirt, it layers: over a fine knit in cold weather, open over a slip dress in milder weeks, cinched with a belt when you want a waist the pattern did not give you.
One honest note before you order. This is polyester corduroy, not cotton velvet, and that is why it keeps its ribs after a cold wash and resists the crushing that ruins real pile. It also means the fabric holds warmth, so treat it as a three-season piece rather than a summer one. The sizing runs generous by design, and the measurements below are the garment's, not the model's.
It is a dress you stop noticing by noon, which is the highest compliment clothing can receive.
The Case for Texture
What the rib does for the body, and what the cut does for the rib.
- ✦ Dense ribbed pile that holds shape and hides creasing through a full day
- ✦ Full-length button placket, wearable closed, open, or half-fastened over a knit
- ✦ Lapel collar that frames the neckline without needing accessories
- ✦ Loose A-profile with a dropped waist, cut to clear the hip
- ✦ Full sleeves with a slightly tapered cuff and a clean shoulder seam
- ✦ Knee-length hem with enough width to walk stairs without a slit

Size and Drape
Measurements are taken flat across the garment, in centimetres. Sizes run S to XXL. Bust: S 100, M 104, L 110, XL 116, XXL 122. Shoulder: S 53, M 54, L 55, XL 56, XXL 57. Sleeve: S 54, M 55, L 56, XL 57, XXL 58. Length: S 101, M 102, L 103, XL 104, XXL 105.
The cut is loose by intent, so the bust measurement reads larger than a fitted dress of the same size. If you normally sit between two sizes and want structure rather than volume, take the smaller one. If you plan to layer a sweater underneath, take your usual size.
Where It Earns Its Place
This is a working dress rather than an occasion dress. It handles a studio day, a lecture hall, a long train ride and a Saturday market without needing a change in between. Worn with boots and a wool coat it reads as tailoring; worn with sneakers and a tote it reads as Saturday. The colour depth means it does not show the small marks that lighter fabrics collect in a season of real wear, and the rib recovers after a wash instead of going slack at the elbow.
Before You Order
Q: Is this real corduroy or a printed rib?
Real corduroy: a cut-pile ribbed fabric, polyester fibre, not a printed pattern. The ribs are physical and run vertically along the body.
Q: Will it shrink in the wash?
Cold water and line drying will not shrink it measurably. Hot water or a tumble dryer will, and the pile will flatten permanently, so avoid both.
Q: Can I wear it in summer?
The pile holds warmth, so it is better suited to spring, autumn and winter layering. In high summer it will feel heavy.
Q: Does a loose cut look shapeless?
The lapel and the full button placket give the eye two strong vertical lines, which is what keeps a loose dress reading as deliberate rather than oversized. A belt adds a waist if you want one.
Q: Which size if I am between two?
Take the smaller size. The body is cut with room to spare and the fabric has slight stretch.
Q: How should I wash it?
Cold hand wash or a gentle machine cycle, then line dry. Do not tumble dry and do not iron directly on the pile; steam from the inside instead.
