Beschreibung

A printer is a machine that turns a spool into an opinion. The same model file prints differently on two filaments, and the difference is rarely the printer. It is diameter tolerance, moisture content and whether the polymer was wound under tension or simply spooled and shipped.

This is silk PLA at 1.75 mm on a one kilogram spool, vacuum packed so the polymer reaches the printer dry. Silk PLA differs from standard PLA in the additive that gives it the glossy, slightly metallic finish, and that same additive is why it prints a little hotter and flows a little more readily. The spool is wound to avoid the crossed loops that cause a print to fail at hour six, and the formulation is specified as odourless and biodegradable, with no heated bed required.

The colour range is the practical part. Forty-nine variants including gold, copper, bronze, silver, a rainbow blend and a three-colour pack, which covers the difference between a functional part and something a person wants to keep on a shelf. Because silk PLA hides layer lines better than matte PLA, the surface finish carries more of the visual work, and that is exactly what it is bought for.

The printer decides what is possible. The spool decides whether anyone wants the result.

Built Around One Problem

  • ✦1.75 mm silk PLA with a glossy, low-sheen metallic finish that softens visible layer lines
  • ✦Vacuum packed on a 1 kg spool, so the polymer arrives dry and prints without pre-drying
  • ✦Wound under tension to reduce the crossed loops that end a long print mid-air
  • ✦Prints without a heated bed on most machines, which keeps the setup simple
  • ✦Specified as odourless and biodegradable, with low warping and good layer adhesion
  • ✦Forty-nine colour options, from gold and copper through to rainbow blends

Who Ends Up Buying It

It is bought for the parts that get looked at. Cosplay armour and props, which is where the silk finish reads as metal without paint. Desk objects and display models, where the surface is the point. Gifts and decorative prints for people who will not know or care what layer height means. It also handles ordinary functional prints, brackets, jigs, enclosures, though standard PLA is cheaper for anything that will never be seen.

The EastSupplier Promise

Before You Order

Q: Does silk PLA need a heated bed?

No, it adheres to most surfaces at room temperature. A bed at 50 to 60 degrees helps on glass, but it is not required, and the material was formulated to print without one.

Q: What temperature should I print at?

Around 200 to 220 degrees on the nozzle, slightly hotter than standard PLA because of the silk additive. Run a temperature tower once per spool, since the gloss changes with temperature.

Q: Why did my print fail halfway through?

Almost always a tangle, moisture or a partial clog. The spool is wound to avoid crossed loops and arrives vacuum packed, so check the nozzle and the extruder tension before blaming the filament.

Q: Is 1 kg enough for a large print?

A 1 kg spool covers most cosplay pieces and desk objects with material left over. Large hollow prints with thin walls use far less than their bounding box suggests.

Q: Does it string?

Silk PLA strings more than matte PLA because it flows more freely. Raise retraction distance slightly and drop the print temperature by five degrees if stringing appears.

Q: Do the colours match the photos?

The metallic shades, gold, copper, bronze and silver, photograph close to the print. Rainbow and multi-colour blends vary along the spool by design, so two prints from the same spool will not be identical.

Q: Does it work in a direct drive extruder?

Yes. At 1.75 mm it runs in both Bowden and direct drive setups. Direct drive tolerates the slightly softer silk compound better, and a shorter retraction distance is usually enough.

Q: How should the spool be stored between prints?

Sealed with a desiccant pack. Silk PLA absorbs moisture faster than matte PLA, and a damp spool shows up as popping at the nozzle and a duller finish rather than an obvious failure.

Q: Is it food safe once printed?

No. FDM prints have layer gaps that harbour bacteria regardless of filament, and the silk additive is not certified for food contact. Print decorative and functional parts, not tableware.
