Description

Water Is The Only Supply Line You Cannot Pack Twice. Every route out of the city eventually runs a calculation on weight, and water is the line item that never balances. A liter weighs a kilogram, and a kilogram carried over eight hours costs a kilometer of range. The Aquifer collapses that arithmetic entirely: 40 grams of medical-grade ultrafiltration that turns whatever the terrain is holding into something you can drink.

The membrane is a 0.1-micron hollow fibre barrier, the same class of pore geometry used in clinical filtration, sized to intercept bacteria and particulate at a removal rate measured beyond four nines in independent TUV and SGS testing. It threads on both ends, which matters more than it sounds. Screw it onto a 28mm bottle neck and gravity does the work. Screw a bottle onto the outlet and you have invented a backflush cycle in the field, which is how a 2000-liter cartridge keeps its flow rate past the first hundred liters.

Set up is deliberately primitive. A soda bottle becomes a gravity reservoir, a collapsible flask becomes a squeeze system, a plastic bag becomes a drip feed, and the filter itself drinks straight from a stream like a straw. No pump, no batteries, no cartridges to ship in from a warehouse that may not exist next season. The body is ABS with a silicone seal, rated for 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, and small enough at 40 by 136 millimetres to disappear into a chest pocket.

This is not a camping gadget. It is a supply line you can carry in a coat pocket.

Key Features

  • ✦ 0.1-micron ultrafiltration membrane rated for 2000 liters of treated water
  • ✦ Removal rate above 99.999999 percent for bacteria, verified by TUV and SGS reports
  • ✦ Dual-threaded body accepts standard 28mm bottle necks on both inlet and outlet
  • ✦ Backflushable in the field with any bottle, restoring flow without tools
  • ✦ Weighs 40 grams and measures 40 by 136 millimetres, pocket transport size
  • ✦ ABS shell with medical-grade UF core and food-contact silicone seal
  • ✦ Operates between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius with no chemicals or power source
  • ✦ Flow rate of 0.6 liters per minute on gravity feed, faster on pressure feed

Where It Belongs

The Aquifer belongs to the people who plan in contingencies: thru-hikers resupplying between water caches, overlanders crossing regions where tap water is a gamble, sailors topping off from a dockside line, and households assembling a 72-hour kit that has to work when the municipal supply does not. It is equally at home in a travel bag for regions where bottled water is the only safe option, converting a hotel bathroom tap into a reliable source for the length of a trip.

Questions, Answered

Q: How long does one cartridge actually last?

Rated at 2000 liters under normal turbidity. Backflushing every few days extends usable life considerably; stop using it when flow rate drops and does not recover after a backflush, or when the cartridge has been frozen.

Q: Can it remove viruses?

The 0.1-micron membrane removes bacteria, protozoa, cysts and particulate matter. Viruses are smaller than the pore rating, so for viral risk we recommend pairing it with a chemical or UV stage. It is not a desalination device and will not remove dissolved salts.

Q: Will it fit my bottle?

It uses 28mm threads on both ends, the standard for PET soda bottles and most collapsible outdoor flasks. If your bottle uses a wide mouth thread, a standard adapter brings it into spec.

Q: How do I backflush it?

Fill a 28mm bottle with clean water, screw it onto the outlet side, and squeeze. Water travels backward through the membrane and flushes the accumulated sediment out of the inlet. Repeat until flow returns.

Q: Does it need to be stored wet or dry?

Store it dry and ventilated between trips. Before a trip, run a liter of water through and discard it to clear any storage dust. Never let the cartridge freeze with water inside.

Q: Is it safe for children and everyday use?

Yes. The materials are food-contact grade with no chemical additives, and there is nothing to dose or measure, which makes it one of the few purifiers that a child can operate correctly under stress.

Lives in the emergency kit now

Bought this for a household 72-hour kit after a week without municipal water last spring. Nothing to dose, nothing to power, and my teenage son can operate it correctly without supervision. That last part mattered more than the spec sheet.

Smaller than I expected, which is the point

Fits inside the lid pocket of my pack. The threads matched both my collapsible flask and a standard bottle, so I never had to improvise. Only reason for four stars is that the instructions are thin on how often to backflush in silty water.

Three days of alpine stream water, zero issues

Filled it from glacier runoff above 3000 meters and drank straight through it for three days. Flow stayed steady the whole trip and the backflush with a soda bottle took about a minute each evening. Forty grams is real, I forgot it was in my chest pocket.
