Description

Suspension does not fail slowly. It fails all at once, at the worst moment, usually on the third lap of a descent you have ridden a hundred times. The failure almost never starts in the shock. It starts in the pivot, in a bearing that was never designed for the direction the force actually arrives from.

The 6902-2RSV is built for that direction. It is a MAX type full-ball bearing: instead of a cage holding a reduced ball count, the maximum number of balls is loaded into the race, and the grooves are cut deeper to give lateral support against the twisting loads that a mountain bike pivot generates. The published figure is 35 to 40 percent more load capacity than a standard radial bearing of the same envelope, and it arrives in the same 15 x 28 x 7mm package your frame already accepts.

The seals are LLU, which is the specification that decides whether a pivot survives a British winter or a Pacific Northwest season. Inside, the bearing is filled to 90 percent with Mobil XHP-222 grease and vacuum packed before it ships. ABEC-5 tolerance on a full-ball bearing is a deliberate choice: the point of the extra balls is stiffness, and loose tolerance would give that stiffness back as play. Four pieces to a lot, because pivots are replaced in pairs and pairs are replaced together.

A pivot bearing is the cheapest part on the bike and the one that decides whether the ride ends well.

Why The Specification Reads This Way

  • ✦ MAX full-ball construction, 35 to 40 percent more load capacity than standard radial bearings
  • ✦ Deeper race grooves for lateral support against twisting pivot loads
  • ✦ LLU seals that keep water and grit out of the grease charge
  • ✦ 90 percent fill of Mobil XHP-222 grease, vacuum packed before dispatch
  • ✦ ABEC-5 tolerance held on a full-ball assembly to avoid introducing play
  • ✦ Standard 15 x 28 x 7mm envelope that drops into existing pivot hardware
  • ✦ RoHS compliant materials
  • ✦ Four pieces per lot to cover a full pivot service

Where It Belongs

Trail riders replace pivot bearings as a scheduled service rather than a repair, because a seized pivot loads the shock and the frame in ways that cost far more than four bearings. Frame builders and small-batch suspension makers buy them in lots for prototype pivots where the envelope is fixed and the load case is not. Shops keep a set on the bench because the 6902 size covers a wide spread of trail and enduro frames, and a customer who arrives with a creaking rear end rarely wants to wait for a part.

Technical Questions

Will these fit my frame?

The bearing is a standard 6902 envelope at 15 x 28 x 7mm. If your pivot hardware accepts a 6902, it accepts this. Where a frame uses a proprietary spacer or a shouldered axle, the bearing still fits but the hardware decides the final assembly.

What does MAX actually change?

A caged bearing leaves room for a retainer; a MAX bearing fills that room with balls. More balls sharing the load means lower stress per ball and higher capacity in the same space.

Should I press these with a bearing press?

Press on the outer race when installing into a frame pocket, never on the inner race. The listing notes are specific about this because pressing the inner race transfers the load through the balls and brinells the races.

Are the seals removable for regreasing?

They are sealed units intended to be replaced rather than serviced. If you ride in constant wet conditions, replacing on a schedule is more reliable than regreasing.

How many do I need for one pivot service?

Most frames use two bearings per pivot location and several locations. Four per lot covers a single location plus spares, which is why we ship them in fours.

Is ABEC-5 overkill for a pivot?

For a rotating hub, grade matters differently than for a pivot. Here the grade protects the stiffness that the full-ball design is there to provide.

The EastSupplier Promise

We buy the way a workshop buys: one supplier, one standard, no surprises at the port. Every listing is inspected before it is packed, documented in English, and shipped with a real person on the other end of the message. Four per lot is the right quantity

Pressed all four with a proper bearing press and they seated cleanly at 15x28x7. Vacuum packing arrived intact. Wish the grease spec was printed on the box, but the listing covers it.

Full ball count makes a real difference

You can feel the stiffness when you press it in. The deeper grooves take the lateral load from the linkage instead of passing it into the frame, which is what the old bearing failed at.

Pivot creak gone, no play afterwards

Replaced both sides of the rear pivot on my trail frame and the rear end is silent again for the first time in a season. The LLU seals are the reason I picked these over the cheap ones.
