Description

Every Tree Is Different, Which Is Why Every Piece Is. That line comes from the workshop that makes these hooks, and it explains the finish better than any spec sheet. The Quiet Hook is cut from solid rubber wood, sanded to a natural matte surface and left without lacquer or colour, so the grain stays visible and each of the four hooks carries a slightly different pattern.

At 11 by 6 by 2 centimetres, the profile is deliberately shallow. A hook that projects far from the wall catches shoulders and sleeves; this one holds a coat without becoming something people walk into. Each piece is rated to about five kilograms, enough for a winter coat, a loaded tote, a hanging plant or a set of keys, and light enough that a single screw anchor in plasterboard will carry it.

The style is the Japanese minimal line, which in practice means the shape is doing the work and the material is not shouting. Four hooks in one box is the right quantity for a hallway run, a bedroom wall or the space behind a door, and it leaves the arrangement to the person who lives there rather than fixing a layout on a backing board.

Mounting is where a good hook succeeds or fails, and it has nothing to do with the wood. Rubber wood is light and the profile is shallow, so the single fixing point carries the whole load. Into a timber stud or a masonry wall with plugs, the rated five kilograms is realistic. Into plasterboard, the anchor matters more than the screw: a hollow-wall fixing spreads the load behind the board and will hold a coat, while a plain screw will pull through the paper facing the first time something heavy is hung. Locate the fixing before drilling, not after.

A good hook disappears into the room. Only the things hanging on it get noticed.

Where It Belongs

Walls fill up faster than anyone plans for. These four hooks solve the hallway problem, where coats and bags need somewhere to land that is not the back of a chair, and the bedroom problem, where a dressing gown and a tote need a home within reach of the bed. The shallow projection makes them viable behind a door or beside a narrow passage. Because the wood is left raw, they also work in bathrooms and pantries where a painted or plated hook would look misplaced, provided the wall itself stays dry.

Mounting Notes

Mark the position, check behind the board for wiring or pipework, and drill to match your fixing rather than the screw. Level the hooks against each other before tightening, since four hooks on a visible wall are read as a single line. Leave the wood untreated; oil or lacquer will darken it and lose the matte, grain-forward finish that makes the set worth having. If a hook is being used for a plant, hang the pot on a short cord so the weight pulls straight down rather than out from the wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much weight can each hook hold?

About 5 kilograms. That covers a winter coat, a loaded tote bag or a small hanging plant.

Q: What wood are they made from?

Solid rubber wood, finished with a natural matte surface and no lacquer or paint.

Q: Will all four hooks look identical?

No. Rubber wood grain varies, so each piece has its own pattern and tone. That variation is intentional.

Q: How far do they project from the wall?

About 6cm at the deepest point, which keeps them out of the way in narrow halls and doorways.

Q: What size are they?

Approximately 11 x 6 x 2 cm each.

Q: What can I hang on them?

Keys, bags, hats, scarves, coats, towels and lightweight decorative items.

Q: Are fixings included?

The pack contains the four wooden hooks. Choose wall plugs and screws to suit your wall type, and use an anchor in plasterboard.

Q: What fixings should I use?

Into timber or masonry, a screw into a plug is enough. Into plasterboard, use a hollow-wall anchor sized for the load.

Q: Should I oil or varnish the wood?

No. The hooks are finished with a natural matte surface, and oil or lacquer will darken the grain and change the look of the set.

Simple and sturdy

Rubber wood, single fixing, nothing to go wrong. Hanging a plant on one and it has not moved in two months.

Four is the right number

Used them for keys, a tote and two coats along one wall and the spacing works. No oil or varnish needed, they look right as they are.

Shallow enough for a narrow hall

They sit close to the wall so nobody catches a shoulder on them. Rated at about 5kg, so a heavy coat is fine but not a loaded rucksack.

Warm wood, not a plastic hook

The grain on all four is different and it makes the hallway look considered rather than like I bought a pack of hooks. Solidly fixed with a plasterboard anchor.
