Description

A wine glass is the only piece of tableware you look through rather than at. That is why a badly dried glass ruins the pour before anyone tastes it: the film of lint and water marks catches the light, the bouquet flattens, and the glass looks like it came out of a dishwasher in a hotel kitchen.

The difference is the fibre. This cloth is woven from 0.37 micron American microfibre, roughly one two-hundredth the diameter of a human hair. At that scale the filaments reach into the microscopic surface rather than pushing dirt across it, which is what removes water spotting instead of smearing it. The 60 by 50 centimetre format is deliberate: large enough that your hand never touches the polished surface, small enough to work inside a stem.

It is a dry-finish cloth. You wash the glass, shake off the excess, then polish with this towel alone. No paper, no heat, no second pass. Restaurants work this way because it is the only method that produces a glass you can hold up to a candle without apology, and it is also the fastest.

Clarity is not a property of the glass. It is a property of the drying.

Why It Earns Its Place

  • ✦ 0.37 micron American microfibre filaments lift residue rather than pushing it
  • ✦ 60 x 50 cm format keeps hands off the polished surface
  • ✦ Dry-finish technique removes water spotting and lint film in one pass
  • ✦ Works on stemware, tumblers, decanters, mirrors and polished metal
  • ✦ Lint-free on crystal and on coated optics
  • ✦ Machine washable and reusable for hundreds of cycles
  • ✦ Sold as a five-piece pack so one is always dry and clean

Where It Belongs

This is standard equipment in restaurant front-of-house and it belongs in any home where glassware matters. Buyers use it for wine glasses and crystal tumblers first, then discover it does a better job on bathroom mirrors, reading glasses, camera lenses and stainless steel appliances than anything sold as a glass cleaner. Five cloths is not an upsell: one in use, one drying, one in the wash, and two in reserve is the rotation that keeps the technique working. Hotels and bars order in multiples for the same reason.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: Does it leave lint on crystal?

A: No. The microfibre is split at a scale below the fibre diameter where linting occurs. On crystal it finishes clean, which is why it is used in restaurant service rather than paper.

Q: Can I use it wet?

A: It works damp for heavier soil, but its real advantage is dry finishing. For a mirror or a wine glass, wash the surface first, then polish with a dry cloth.

Q: Will it scratch coated lenses?

A: The fibre is soft enough for coated optics when used clean. Rinse out grit before using it on lenses, as with any cloth.

Q: How do I wash it?

A: Machine wash warm with normal detergent and no fabric softener, which coats the fibre and destroys absorbency. Air dry or tumble low.

Q: How long does a cloth last?

A: With weekly washing, several hundred cycles before the fibre mats. Retire it to general cleaning at that point.

Q: Is 60 x 50 cm too large for a wine glass?

A: It is the correct size. The excess fabric is what lets you polish without your fingers touching the bowl, which is where marks come from.

Q: Do the five cloths differ?

A: They are identical. The five-pack exists so that a clean dry cloth is always available while others are in the wash.

Q: Can it be used on a television or monitor screen?

A: Yes, dry and clean. Microfibre is the standard material for coated display surfaces, provided the cloth carries no grit from previous jobs.

Q: Why grey rather than white?

A: Grey hides the residue it picks up, so you can see when the cloth is loaded and needs washing instead of guessing. It also shows stains less than white cloths used on red wine sediment.

Excellent on glass, wash without softener

Works exactly as advertised on stemware. Mine lost absorbency after I washed it with softener by mistake, so follow the care note and skip the conditioner.

Bought a second pack for the kitchen

It started on wine glasses and ended up doing the bathroom mirror, reading glasses and the stainless fridge. Five cloths is the right number because one is always in the wash.

Finally, glasses without water marks

Wash, shake, polish with this cloth, done. No lint, no streaks, and I can hold the glass up to the window without seeing a film. The size means my fingers never touch the bowl.
