Description
There is a moment in every recital when the house lights drop and the dancer has to hold the stage on her own. This tutu is built for that moment. The light does not arrive from the rig above the stage, it comes from inside the skirt, which means the audience sees the costume before it sees the spotlight and the choreography lands against a moving glow instead of a flat backdrop.
The silhouette is a classic three-layer pancake, pressed and hand-tacked so each tier holds its own plane rather than collapsing into the next. The LED strands are routed inside the tulle layers and along the seam allowance of the lined bodice, which keeps the wire off the skin and invisible from the front row. Modes are limited to three on purpose, steady, flash and off, because a dancer with thirty seconds to change does not need a menu. The battery compartment sits low at the back waist where a sash or a shrug can cover it.
Sizing runs by height rather than age, in eight bands from 90cm to 170cm, so the same costume serves a five year old in a Christmas pageant and an adult in an amateur company production of Swan Lake. Four lit colorways are offered alongside four unlit versions of the same construction for rehearsal, photography, or productions where the house dims the lights and an LED read would be a distraction.
The stage does not light the dancer. On the right night, the dancer lights the stage.

Where It Is Worn
This is a costume for stages that were not designed around lighting budgets. School recitals, church pageants, dance school showcases, community theatre and holiday parades all share the same problem, the performers are rehearsed but the room is dim. A tutu that carries its own light removes the dependency on a follow spot and on a parent with a phone torch. The unlit versions matter just as much, because dress rehearsals and class photographs happen under fluorescent light where an LED read is a distraction rather than an effect. Studios that stage The Nutcracker, Swan Lake excerpts or a winter showcase will find the height grading does most of the work, one order covers a whole cast from the youngest corps member to the adult soloist.
Before You Order
Is the battery included?
No. The price covers the tutu, its integrated wiring and the matching hair accessory. The battery compartment is closed with a simple flap at the back waist and takes ordinary cells, which are cheaper and fresher when bought locally than when shipped inside a costume.
How do I choose the size?
Measure the dancer standing in flat shoes and pick the height band, not the age. The height bands are 90-100, 100-110, 110-120, 120-130, 130-140, 140-150, 150-160 and 160-170cm. If the measurement falls on a boundary, take the smaller band, because a pancake tutu that sits too low loses its line.
Can the lights be switched off completely?
Yes. Off is the third mode, and the costume still reads as a plain tulle tutu in that setting. Many buyers order one lit and one unlit version of the same color so the rehearsal costume and the performance costume look identical on stage.
Will the tulle scratch a child?
The bodice is lined and the skirt edges are bound, so the abrasive part of a cheap tutu is not against the waist. The tulle itself is polyester, which is the standard for stage costume because it holds shape under warm lights without wilting the way natural tulle does.
How should it be cleaned?
Spot clean the bodice with a damp cloth and cold water, and let the skirt air out flat. Do not put it in a washing machine, because the agitation will crush the pancake layers and stress the LED wiring. For a full season of performances, a garment bag and a cool, dry storage box will do more for its life than any cleaning product.
Does it work for adult dancers?
The two largest bands, 150-160cm and 160-170cm, were cut for teenagers and adults, and the proportions of the pancake hold at that scale. Adult buyers should check the height band against a standing measurement in ballet slippers rather than street shoe size.
Is this the same costume used for Halloween and cosplay?
It is. The construction is a performance tutu rather than a party costume, but the same three-layer skirt and glowing tulle photograph well for Halloween, cosplay and studio shoots. The unlit versions are the usual choice for cosplay, where a photographer controls the lighting.
