Diagnosis Beats Excavation. Every drain, sewer or duct job opens with the same two questions. Where is the problem, and what has it done to the pipe? Digging to find out is the expensive answer, and it is the answer a customer will argue about afterwards. Looking first is the cheap one.
A 23mm head on a marked cable. The camera head measures 23mm across and carries an IP68 rating, so it enters any line wider than roughly 25mm and continues to work submerged. Twelve adjustable LEDs illuminate the run ahead of the lens, and two protective covers adapt the head for different pipe diameters. The push cable is printed with depth markings at regular intervals, which is what makes the number on the screen correspond to a real position underground.
The 512Hz sonde is the feature that prevents a second visit. The head carries a 512Hz transmitter, and the locator receiver works in far mode to find the signal and near mode to narrow it, so the operator confirms the point above ground before anyone cuts asphalt. Video and stills record through the monitor to the supplied 16GB card, which turns the inspection into evidence the customer can be shown rather than a description they have to accept.
Four cable lengths and two screen sizes, so the same system serves a domestic drain call and a municipal main. Choose from 7-inch or 9-inch 720P monitors and 30, 40, 50 or 91 metres of cable, all powered by a 12V 4500mAh rechargeable pack with a remaining-capacity readout.
It does not merely show you the blockage. It tells you where to stand when you fix it.

Who Carries the Deep Eye
The primary buyer is a drain and sewer contractor who currently quotes either a guess or an excavation. With a camera in the van, the same visit produces a recorded condition report, a located defect depth and a defensible quotation, and the customer can be shown the footage on site. Plumbing firms use it to confirm a collapsed section before ordering a repair rather than discovering it mid-job. Municipal and facilities maintenance teams use the longer cables on mains and the shorter ones on internal drainage, and the DVR function gives them a dated record for the asset file. Home inspectors add it to cover underground drainage, which is normally excluded from a standard survey. Industrial maintenance departments use it on process pipework, ducting and chiller lines where the alternative is dismantling a run to inspect it. In every one of those cases the 512Hz sonde is the specification that changes the work, because it removes the second mobilisation that would otherwise be needed to find what the camera already found.
Contractor Questions
Q: What does the 512Hz locator actually let me do?
A: It transmits at 512Hz from the head and the receiver picks up that signal from above ground in two modes. Far mode finds the general location, then near mode narrows it to the highest signal point. Practically, it means you can mark the defect position before you open the ground rather than after.
Q: Which cable length should I order?
A: Match the longest run you routinely inspect. The 30m and 40m units suit domestic and internal drainage work. The 50m covers most commercial premises. The 91m is for mains and long external runs. Buying one length up from your normal maximum is usually cheaper than a second mobilisation.
Q: Is the camera head rated for fully flooded pipes?
A: Yes, the head carries an IP68 rating, which covers continuous immersion. That does not extend to the monitor or the cable reel, so keep those out of standing water.
Q: Can I record and hand the footage to a customer?
A: Yes. Video and photographs record to the supplied 16GB SD card through the DVR function, so you can review footage at the property or transfer it to a report afterwards.
Q: What size pipes will it fit?
A: The head is 23mm across and the manufacturer specifies a minimum line diameter of approximately 25mm. Two protective covers are included to adapt the head to different bore sizes within that range.
Q: How long does the battery run?
A: The unit uses a 12V 4500mAh rechargeable lithium pack with a capacity display, and it is charged from the supplied adapter. Actual runtime depends on monitor size and how much recording you do, so plan a charge between long shifts and carry the display reading as your cue.
