SUNLU Marble PLA
Marble filament has a reputation problem: most of it looks like grey plastic with a few streaks. The effect depends on how the pigment is distributed through the polymer, and on a printer that can push the material fast enough that the veins do not stretch into smears. SUNLU blends a mineral-look pigment through a high-speed PLA base, and the result reads as stone rather than as tinted plastic when the part comes off the plate.
The high-speed claim is specific rather than decorative. Below 300mm per second the material prints at 210 to 230 degrees, and between 300 and 600 millimetres per second the temperature climbs to 230 to 260 to keep up with the melt demand. That temperature ladder is what allows a CoreXY machine to run a large architectural model without under-extrusion, while a stock bedslinger runs the same spool at 190 to 210 and still gets clean walls.
Tolerance is held to plus or minus 0.02mm and the spool is wound without overlaps, which matters more than usual here: a marble part is usually a display piece, so a single missed layer is visible from across the room. Retraction settings of 0.8 to 1.2mm at 30 to 40mm per second and a raft distance of 0.4 to 0.6mm cover the stringing that mineral-filled blends tend to produce.
Stone is a material. This is the closest a spool gets to one.
What The Build Gets Right
- ✦ Mineral-look pigment that produces a continuous stone texture rather than streaks
- ✦ Rated for printing up to 600mm per second on high-flow machines
- ✦ Temperature ladder from 190 to 260 degrees C to match print speed
- ✦ Plus or minus 0.02mm diameter tolerance for clean vertical walls
- ✦ Low shrinkage, so tall architectural models stay square
- ✦ Zero-bubble extrusion and a nozzle-friendly blend that resists clogging
- ✦ One kilogram net spool, 1.3kg gross, wound to 330 metres

Where It Earns Its Place
Architectural massing models, display busts, lamp shades and anything where surface reads as material rather than as plastic. Because the texture survives at 0.2mm layers, a model printed on a stock machine still looks intentional. Interior designers use it for scale mockups that have to sit on a table next to real stone samples, and hobbyists use it for terrain where a painted finish would look flat.
Questions Buyers Ask Before Ordering
Will the marble effect vary between spools?
Yes, slightly. The pigment blend is consistent within a batch, but the vein pattern shifts along the length of every spool, which is what stops the texture from looking printed. Two parts from the same spool will not be identical.
Can my stock printer run this at 600mm per second?
No, and it does not need to. The speed rating describes the ceiling on a high-flow machine. On a standard bedslinger, print at 190 to 210 degrees and 50 to 100mm per second and the surface still comes out clean.
Does the pigment wear out a brass nozzle?
Marble blends are mildly abrasive over long runs. A hardened steel or ruby nozzle removes the concern entirely, and a brass nozzle is fine for a few kilos before wear becomes visible in extrusion consistency.
How do I avoid stringing on a textured part?
Dry the spool first, then set retraction to 0.8 to 1.2mm at 30 to 40mm per second and drop nozzle temperature by 5 degrees. Marble blends string more than plain PLA because the pigment changes the melt viscosity.
Can it be sanded or painted?
Sanded, yes, though sanding dulls the vein contrast. Painting works but defeats the point. A clear matte coat seals the surface and deepens the stone look without changing the texture.
Is it food safe or outdoor rated?
Neither claim is made. PLA is not suitable for food contact once printed, and it softens in a hot car. Keep marble parts indoors and away from direct summer sun.
