the-nightwatch-4k-outdoor-ip-camera
The Nightwatch | 8MP 4K Outdoor IP Camera with Dual-Light Alarm

A camera is only as good as the dark it can survive. The Nightwatch was built for the hours when nothing else sees clearly: the loading yard at 23:40, the side gate under a dead streetlamp, the back fence where the wind moves the hedge and the eye plays tricks. An 8-megapixel sensor renders 4K detail, and at 0.001 lux with an F1.2 aperture it keeps the frame readable long after colour has drained out of the scene.

Two light sources do the actual work of the night shift. Infrared handles the invisible distance, reaching 30 to 50 metres with a cut filter that snaps over when the light falls. The dual-light array handles the near field in full colour, and when the alarm logic trips, the light jumps to a harder intensity while the audio path carries a two-way response. Detection is on the edge, not in a cloud queue: faces are classified inside the camera, so the notification that reaches the phone is about a person, not a moving branch.

The hardware is die-formed metal, not the soft plastic shell that heat warps after two summers on a sunlit wall. A dome geometry keeps the lens out of the weather and out of reach. Power and data travel on a single PoE run, so the install is one cable through one hole. H.265 keeps the bitrate on the sensible side of a 4K stream, and ONVIF plus RTSP mean the camera speaks to whatever recorder is already in the rack instead of demanding a new ecosystem.

Surveillance is not about watching. A self-storage operator uses the 3.6 mm lens across a corridor of roller doors and the 2.8 mm inside a compact loading bay, both on the same NVR because ONVIF lets them share a recorder. A workshop owner points one at the tool crib and routes the FTP alarm to a phone that buzzes when the frame changes after closing. For a residential gate, the two-way audio turns a passive recording into a conversation, and the dual-light colour feed means a licence plate or a face is described in tones a human recognises rather than in grey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does it need a separate power cable?

A: No. Power over Ethernet carries both data and power on the single run, which is why the install is one cable and one hole through the wall.

Q: Can it record to a recorder I already own?

A: Yes.
