A resin printer is a light engine and a vat. Everything the machine can be trusted to do after the model comes off the build plate is decided by what was in the vat, and no amount of slicer tuning recovers a part printed in the wrong polymer. ABS-Like Pro 2 was formulated for the part that has to survive being used: dropped, screwed into, clamped, left in a hot car, handled by someone who does not know it is a prototype.

The engineering story is in the phrase ABS-like. Standard 405nm resin cures hard and brittle, which is why early prints snapped at thin walls and cracked around self-tapping screws. This formula trades some of that hardness for elongation, so a bracket flexes instead of shattering and a snap-fit tab survives its first ten engagements. The improvement is measurable in tensile and bending strength rather than in marketing language, and it is the difference between a display model and a functional part.

Printing behaviour matters as much as cured properties. The 405nm wavelength matches the LCD and DLP light engines that dominate the desktop market, and the viscosity is held in a range that lets the resin drain back across the vat between layers instead of hanging on the model as drips. Low odour is the other deliberate choice: it does not make the resin safe to breathe in a closed room, but it makes an open-plan workshop and a spare bedroom far less unpleasant than the older high-solvent formulas.

Two numbers belong on the bench wall rather than in a datasheet. Colour accuracy drifts if the bottle sits in sunlight, so store it dark and capped, and the working life of a poured vat is shorter than the shelf life of a sealed bottle. One year sealed, roughly eighteen months for the chemistry as supplied, and a vat that should be filtered back into the bottle after a failed print rather than left to skin over.

The printer decides the resolution. The resin decides whether anyone believes the part.

Key Features

  • ABS-like mechanical profile Higher elongation and impact resistance than standard resin, so thin walls flex and self-tapping screws do not crack the boss.
  • 405nm compatibility Matched to the LCD and DLP light engines used on current desktop printers, at exposure settings close to standard resin.
  • Tensile and bending strength Formulated on the strength figures rather than on shrinkage alone, which is why functional brackets hold their shape under load.
  • Low odour formula Reduces the solvent smell that makes an open vat unpleasant in a workshop or a spare room.
  • Stable across a vat session Viscosity held for consistent drainage between layers, so tall prints do not carry resin back onto the model.
  • Colour and clarity options Multiple colourways across the size range, so parts can be colour-coded by function rather than painted after curing.
  • Post-process friendly Cleans in standard IPA, cures under a 405nm lamp, sands and drills without gumming the tool.
  • Predictable shelf life Sealed bottles keep for a year; the vat is the part that ages, so pour back and filter after a failure.

Where It Belongs

This is the resin for the workshop that prints parts rather than models: jigs and fixtures, enclosures, brackets, drone frames, camera mounts, replacement knobs and clips, scale model components that will be handled. It suits the small production run where ten identical parts have to be dimensionally consistent and tough enough to leave the bench. It also suits the hobbyist who is tired of reprinting the same snapped part.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will it work in my printer?

A: If your machine uses a 405nm LCD or DLP light engine, yes. Exposure times sit close to standard resin, so start from your normal profile and adjust in small steps rather than rebuilding the settings.

Q: Is it really as strong as ABS?

A: It behaves like ABS where it matters for printed parts: impact resistance and elongation. It is not the same polymer and it does not have the same heat resistance, so do not use it for anything that lives inside an engine bay.

Q: How strong is the smell?

A: Noticeably lower than older high-solvent resins, but low odour is not no odour. Ventilate the room, and keep the printer away from where people sleep.

Q: Do I still need to wash and cure?

A: Yes. Isopropyl alcohol, two stages if the part has fine detail, then a 405nm cure. Under-cured parts feel tacky and lose strength; over-cured parts go brittle, so follow the lamp time rather than guessing.

Q: How long can it sit in the vat?

A: Days, not weeks. Filter it back into the bottle after a failed print and stir the vat before a long job. A skin forming on the surface is the signal that the vat has been idle too long.

Q: Which colours are available?

A: Several, across the size options. Colour choice does not change the mechanical formulation, so pick on visibility and coding rather than on strength.

Q: Why does my print shrink at the base?

A: That is usually exposure and lift settings rather than the resin. Increase bottom exposure slightly and reduce lift speed before blaming the material.

Wash properly or it stays tacky

Good resin, but it needs a proper two-stage IPA wash. My first parts felt sticky because I rushed the wash, not because of the material. Cured properly they sand and drill cleanly. Not for anything near engine heat.

Functional parts, not display parts

Printed a bracket that gets clamped into a vice and it flexed instead of shattering. Odour is much lower than the bottle I was using before, which matters because the printer is in a spare room with a window.

Snap fits that do not snap

This is the first resin where a snap-fit enclosure tab survived being opened ten times. Standard resin cracked at the shoulder every time. Exposure needed very little adjustment from my usual profile, about half a second more per layer.
