Descrizione

A nozzle is not a part. It is a tolerance, and the print fails when the tolerance does.

Nine hours into a structural print, the extrusion starts to wander: a thin line on one wall, a rough patch on the next, and a finished model that has to go in the bin. The slicer was correct, the filament was dry, the belts were tensioned. The component at fault is a piece of brass the size of a grain of rice, and it had been quietly wearing out of specification for weeks.

These are original FLSUN V400 hotend assemblies, supplied as a set of five, in the double-hole block format the V400 carriage was designed around. Brass is the right material for the job: it conducts heat faster than steel, holds a stable melt zone, and machines to a clean orifice. The double-hole geometry supports the high-flow behaviour the V400 is capable of, and the three available orifice sizes let the same machine move between detail work and fast, thick-walled production parts.

We will state the limitation plainly. Brass is a consumable in an abrasive application: printing carbon-fibre or glass-filled filament will erode the orifice faster than any supplier admits. For those materials, consider a hardened replacement. For everything else, keeping a sealed set of originals on the shelf is the cheapest insurance a print farm can buy, because the alternative is losing a nine-hour job to a component that costs less than the filament it ruined.

The print does not fail loudly. It fails at the nozzle, quietly, one layer at a time.

Why It Earns Its Place

  • ✦ Original FLSUN specification — Not a third-party clone. The orifice geometry and block dimensions match the V400 carriage, so the melt zone behaves as tuned.
  • ✦ Double-hole block design — Supports the higher flow rates the V400 is built for, with a more even melt across the heater block.
  • ✦ Three orifice sizes — 0.4 mm for detail, 0.6 mm for general work, 0.8 mm for fast thick-walled parts, all on the same machine.
  • ✦ Brass thermal conductivity — Reaches and holds printing temperature quickly, which shortens heat-up and stabilises extrusion.
  • ✦ Five pieces per lot — A working stock rather than a single spare, so a worn tip does not stop production for a week.
  • ✦ Sealed protective packaging — Orifices arrive clean and unmarked; a burr from careless storage is enough to ruin a print.

Where It Belongs

These belong in the spares drawer of anyone running a V400 as a working machine rather than a hobby: small print farms scheduling jobs back to back, workshops producing jigs and fixtures, schools with a lab printer that cannot be down for a week waiting on a single brass tip. The size spread is the practical part of the set. Keep 0.4 mm loaded for dimensional work, switch to 0.6 mm when a job is more about strength than surface finish, and use 0.8 mm for large brackets and moulds where wall thickness dominates and print time decides whether the job is worth taking.

Questions, Answered

Q: Are these genuine FLSUN parts or compatible clones?

A: They are original FLSUN supply for the V400, not generic compatible blocks. On a high-flow machine the difference shows up in orifice concentricity, which is exactly what a clone usually gets wrong.

Q: How often should a brass nozzle be replaced?

A: Treat it as a consumable. Under continuous printing, expect to inspect for orifice wear every few hundred hours, sooner with abrasive filaments. A widening pattern in extrusion width or a persistent rough wall is the usual signal.

Q: Can I print carbon-fibre filament with these?

A: You can, but understand the trade. Brass erodes quickly with abrasive fillers, so orifice size drifts and print quality follows it down. Hardened steel is the correct tool for that material; keep brass for standard filaments.

Q: Do I need to change any slicer settings when swapping sizes?

A: Yes. Update the nozzle diameter in the slicer profile, then re-check flow and pressure advance, because a larger orifice changes both. Swapping the metal without touching the profile is the most common reason a good nozzle appears to print badly.

Q: Is the 0.4 mm variant suitable for fine detail models?

A: It is the right starting point for miniatures and dimensional parts. Step down further only if your machine holds its tolerances, and expect longer print times as the orifice narrows.

Good brass, wears as expected

Solid quality and consistent across the five in the pack. Brass is brass though, so do not expect it to survive carbon fibre filament for long. For PLA and PETG it has been faultless.

0.6mm is now my default

Been running the 0.6 for general work and the flow is noticeably more stable than the clone nozzle I had before. Remember to change the nozzle diameter in your slicer profile or it will print badly and you will blame the part.

Solved a recurring extrusion problem

Replaced a nozzle that had about 400 hours on it and the wall quality came back immediately. These are genuine FLSUN blocks, the orifice is clean, and the fit on the V400 carriage needed no adjustment. Five in a lot means I stop rationing spares.
