説明

An electric lock is a binary device with an unforgiving power requirement. Under-volt it and the strike releases weakly or hums without opening. Over-drive it and the coil cooks. Between the mains supply and the lock sits a power supply that either does its job invisibly for a decade or becomes the reason a door stops working on a Friday afternoon.

The Lock Keeper takes AC 90 to 260 volts in and delivers a regulated DC 12 volt output at either 3A or 5A. The wide input range means the same unit works on 110V and 220V supplies without a tap change, which matters for imported equipment and for buildings with uneven distribution. Output is filtered, so the strike does not buzz under load and the controller does not brown out when the lock fires.

The 3A and 5A decision is straightforward. One lock on the supply is comfortably served by 3A. Two locks, or a lock plus a controller and reader on the same rail, run more stably at 5A because the inrush of a strike is several times its holding current. Both units are housed in a compact case with screw terminals and are intended for mounting inside a secured enclosure near the door.

Both black and white housings are stocked in each current rating. The unit is designed as a building component rather than a consumer adapter: no barrel plug, no wall-wart cable, just terminals that accept the field wiring an installer is already running.

A door either opens or it does not. Everything interesting happens in the twelve volts between those outcomes.

Why It Works

  • ✦ Regulated DC 12V output at 3A or 5A
  • ✦ Wide AC 90 to 260V input, no voltage tap change needed
  • ✦ Filtered output stops strike buzz and controller brownout
  • ✦ Screw terminals for field wiring, no adapter plug
  • ✦ Compact housing for mounting inside a secured enclosure
  • ✦ Black and white housings in both current ratings
  • ✦ Suits electric strikes, magnetic locks and RFID controllers

Where It Belongs

Installers fitting a single-door strike on a storefront choose the 3A unit and mount it above the ceiling tile next to the reader controller. Multi-door offices run the 5A version where two locks share a rail, avoiding the brownout that shows up as an intermittent reader fault. Integrators replacing failed generic adapters use the wide-input version because it survives sites where the actual mains voltage drifts well below nominal.

Questions Buyers Ask

Q: Should I choose 3A or 5A?

A: One lock is fine on 3A. Two locks, or a lock plus reader and controller, run more stably on 5A because strike inrush is much higher than holding current.

Q: Does it work on 110V and 220V?

A: Yes. The AC 90 to 260V input range covers both without any tap change or switch.

Q: Can it power a magnetic lock?

A: Yes, provided the lock's holding current plus any controller draw stays inside the unit's rating.

Q: Does it include a battery backup?

A: No. This is a regulated supply. Backup is provided by a separate UPS or the controller's own battery module.

Q: Where should it be mounted?

A: Inside a secured enclosure near the door, on the protected side, with mains wiring done to local code by a qualified electrician.

Q: Will the strike buzz?

A: The output is filtered and stabilised, which removes the buzz that unfiltered supplies produce under strike load.

Runs warm under load

Case gets warm with a maglock pulling continuous current. Fine mounted in open air, avoid boxing it in tight.

Single door on 3A is plenty

3A version runs one strike on a shop door with no issue at all. Quiet, no buzz.

Terminals are the right choice

Screw terminals instead of a barrel plug means proper field wiring. Mounting holes could be a bit larger.

Wide input saved the job

Site voltage was drifting low and the other supply kept dropping the strike. This one holds 12V regardless.

Two locks, no brownouts

Went with the 5A for two strikes on one rail. Reader faults I had with a generic adapter stopped entirely.
