the-turret-eye-8mp-poe-ptz-camera
The Turret Eye | 8MP PoE PTZ Camera with 4x Digital Zoom

A fixed camera covers one angle and hopes. A PTZ camera covers the angle you point it at today and the one you need tomorrow, which is the difference that matters on a shop front, a yard or a driveway where the interesting activity moves. The Turret Eye is a 2.5 inch dome on a pan and tilt head, 8 megapixel sensor, 3.6 millimetre lens, four times digital zoom, and a range of motion from 0 to 355 degrees horizontally so a single unit covers a corner that would otherwise take three fixed cameras.

The imaging chain is specified for the hours that matter. A Sony CMOS sensor with a minimum illumination of 0.0001 lux works down to near-darkness, and the infrared illumination reaches between 10 and 150 metres depending on conditions, so a yard or a loading bay stays readable after the lights go off. H.265 compression is what makes the footage storable: the same retention window takes roughly half the bandwidth and disk space of H.264, which is the practical difference between a week of recording and a fortnight.

On the network side the camera is deliberately boring in the way installers want. PoE 48 volt or 12 volt DC input, so one cable carries power and data if there is a PoE switch, or it drops onto existing 12 volt cabling. RTSP streaming, an XMEYE compatible NVR profile, and the ICSee app on Android and iOS cover the three ways people actually watch footage. Face detection runs on the camera rather than in the cloud, so alerts do not depend on a subscription or on the vendor staying in business.

Two sensor options are stocked, 5 megapixel and 8 megapixel, and the honest guidance is that the 5MP version is the better buy for most domestic installations: the file sizes are smaller, the drive lasts longer, and at the distances a house or small shop actually monitors, the extra resolution rarely converts into extra identification. The 8MP version earns its price on a wide yard or a car park where the camera is asked to read a plate at distance.

Coverage is not how many cameras you own.
