Description

A garden is unusable for a third of the year for one reason, and it is not the rain. It is the angle of the sun between eleven and four, when a terrace becomes a griddle and everyone retreats indoors. The Slow Afternoon answers that problem with tension rather than construction. Three fixing points, one triangle of fabric, and a patch of ground that stays ten degrees cooler than the lawn beside it.

The cloth is a 160 gsm PU coated polyester with a 98 percent UV block and a 90 percent shading rate. Water resistance is rated at 400 millimetres hydrostatic head, which handles summer showers and lets the fabric drain rather than pool, and the weave stays air-permeable so the space underneath does not become a greenhouse. Each side carries sturdy stitching with stainless steel D-rings, three pad eyes are fitted, and three 1800D wind ropes at 200 centimetres each come in the parcel. The curved edges are deliberate: they hold tension against a post or a wall and resist the sagging that flattens a flat-cut sail in its second season.

Sizing runs from the 2 metre triangle that covers a bistro table to the 5 metre span that shades a pool deck or a parking bay, in seven colours including sand, beige, deep gray and blue. Mounting follows a simple rule. Leave 1.5 to 2 feet between the fixing point and the eyelet for the hardware, and set the sail at an angle between 20 and 40 degrees so rain runs off and the fabric stays taut.

The sun does not have to win the afternoon.

Where It Belongs

Terraces, patios and lawns where a table or a seating area needs relief from direct sun. The 5 metre triangle is sized for pools, decks, carports and pergolas, and the smaller sizes suit balconies, sandboxes and garden benches. Restaurants and cafes use the same sail over outdoor seating, and because multiple sails can be combined in different colours and sizes, a large shaded area can be assembled from standard triangles instead of a fixed awning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much sun does it block?

The fabric carries a 98 percent UV block with a 90 percent shading rate, which lowers the ambient temperature underneath and reduces the load on nearby air conditioning.

Q: Is it completely waterproof?

It is water resistant with a 400 mm hydrostatic head rating and stays air permeable. It sheds summer rain when mounted at the recommended angle, but it is a shade sail rather than a sealed roof.

Q: What is included with the sail?

The shade sail itself, three stainless steel D-rings stitched on the edges, three pad eyes, and three 1800D wind ropes at 200 cm each. Posts and wall brackets are not included.

Q: What angle should it be installed at?

Between 20 and 40 degrees. That range keeps enough tension in the fabric to stop it flapping and gives rain a direction to run in.

Q: How much space do I need around the fixing points?

Leave 1.5 to 2 feet between each fixing point and the sail eyelet, which gives room for the hardware, hook or rope and allows the sail to be tensioned properly.

Q: Why is the shaded area slightly smaller than the listed size?

The sides are curved to hold tension, and that curve pulls the effective shading area in by roughly 4 to 6 inches on each side. Size up if you are covering a fixed footprint.

The EastSupplier Promise

Each sail is inspected for stitching, eyelet seating and coating before dispatch, and shipped with tracked delivery. Because shade depends on the footprint you are covering, our team will confirm that the triangle size matches your fixing points before the order is packed.

Shaded area slightly smaller than the size

Good quality fabric and the stitching looks solid. The note about the curved sides reducing the shaded area is accurate, I measured roughly ten centimetres in on each side. Size up if you are covering a fixed patio footprint.

Held tension through a windy week

The curved edges make a real difference. My previous flat cut sail started drooping after one summer and this one has kept its shape through a breezy fortnight. Tightened the ropes once after the first week and it has stayed put.

Ropes and rings included, nothing missing

I expected to have to buy the ropes separately and they were in the parcel, three of them, plus the D rings stitched on. Installed it over a sandbox and the kids use it every afternoon now. The beige colour looks better in the garden than I anticipated.

Terrace is usable again at midday

The 5 metre sail covers our patio table and the difference in temperature underneath is noticeable. Fitted to two posts and one wall bracket. It rained the second week and the water ran off rather than pooling, exactly as the angle guidance suggested.
