Description

A Grid Connection Is a Subscription. A Wind Turbine Is an Asset. Every kilowatt a household buys is rent paid on infrastructure it will never own, priced by a utility that sets the rate after the meter is already installed. A vertical-axis turbine changes the direction of that transaction. It converts moving air into stored charge on the property where the electricity is actually consumed, and it keeps doing so after the invoice would have been paid dozens of times over. The question is no longer whether small wind is viable. It is whether the machine you bolt to the roof will still be turning in a decade.

This is the SR-5000, a 5000W vertical-axis generator built around a three-phase permanent magnet suspension motor rather than a geared drivetrain. That single design decision removes the gearbox, the oil, and the maintenance interval that shortens the life of most small turbines. The blades are fibreglass, formed by precision injection moulding around an optimised aerodynamic profile so the rotor starts turning at low wind speed and extracts more from the air that reaches it. The shaft turns on two bearings inside a cast aluminium alloy body, which is how the unit survives gusts that would stall a lighter machine, and safe operation is rated to 40 metres per second. Generator protection is IP54, so dust and driven rain are accounted for before installation rather than after.

Deployment is deliberately modular. The tower mount accepts either a pipeline or a flange connection between 2 and 12 metres, and output is selectable at 12V, 24V or 48V to match the battery bank already on site. From there the configuration follows the application. A free MPPT boost controller is the entry point. An MPPT LCD hybrid controller adds monitoring and solar input. An inverter system delivers mains-voltage AC. A solar system pairs the turbine with four 100W 18V flexible panels for a complementary wind-and-sun array that keeps charging when the air is still. The battery system adds LiFePO4 storage in 12.8V 100Ah, 25.6V 50Ah or 48V 25Ah configurations at 1280Wh. Cabins, boats, street lighting, mountain sites and cold-climate installations are all named operating environments for this unit, which is why it is built for exposure rather than for a showroom shelf.

Wind is not weather. It is an untapped line item on the property balance sheet.

Where It Belongs

Off-grid cabins, sailboats and remote workshops are the obvious homes for this machine, where there is no pole to connect to and a generator means fuel hauled by hand. Less obvious but equally suited are cold-climate sites, mountain installations, and street-lighting or telemetry poles that need a self-contained charge source through a winter. Because the turbine is vertical-axis it does not care which way the wind arrives, which matters on a ridgeline or a rooftop where direction is never constant. Paired with the four-panel flexible solar option it becomes a hybrid supply that produces in daylight and in weather, and with the battery configuration it becomes a complete stored-energy system rather than a single generation component.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to choose the voltage before ordering?

Yes. The 12V, 24V and 48V options are separate variants and must match your battery bank and controller. If you are building a new system, 48V is the usual choice for a 5000W machine because it keeps conductor current and cable losses low over longer runs.

Q: What is the difference between the controller options?

The free MPPT boost controller is the minimum viable regulator and is the most economical way to run the turbine. The MPPT LCD hybrid controller adds a display and accepts solar input alongside wind, which is what you want if you plan the four-panel solar upgrade.

Q: How much wind does it need to start producing?

The rotor is designed for a low start-up speed, so it begins generating in light air rather than waiting for a strong day. Rated output of 5000W is reached in good sustained wind, and safe operation is rated to 40 m/s, so gusts above the rated range are a survivability case rather than an output case.

Q: Can it be installed on a roof or does it need a tower?

Both are possible. The unit ships with a mounting base and accepts pipeline or flange connection between 2 and 12 metres. Roof mounting suits lower mount heights on exposed buildings; a freestanding tower is preferred where turbulence from the roof line would disturb flow.

Q: Does it include a battery?

Only the battery system variant does, and it supplies LiFePO4 storage in 12.8V 100Ah, 25.6V 50Ah or 48V 25Ah form at 1280Wh. The free controller, LCD controller, inverter and solar variants are generation and conversion packages only, and expect an existing battery bank.

Q: What arrives in the box?

Three fibreglass blades, one generator set, the main shaft, the arms, and the bolts and nuts required to assemble the rotor. The MPPT controller and the inverter are optional items tied to the variant you select, and the solar and battery systems add their own components.

Great machine, order the right voltage

Performance is everything I hoped for and the build quality is a step above the cheap turbines I have bought before. My only advice is to be certain about 12V, 24V or 48V before you order, because I got it wrong the first time and had to exchange. Once matched to the battery bank it has been faultless.

Blades survived a 38 m/s night

We had a storm come through with sustained gusts well above what I would normally trust a small turbine with. It is rated to 40 m/s and it came through with no blade damage and no bearing noise afterwards. The cast aluminium body and the twin bearings are clearly doing what they are supposed to do.

Quiet, and the suspension generator is the real feature

I replaced a geared turbine that needed oil every season and made a whine you could hear inside the house. This one is a permanent magnet suspension motor with no gearbox, so there is nothing to service and it is close to silent. Start-up in light air is noticeably better than the old unit.

Running our off-grid cabin all winter

We are 4km from the nearest pole so this went up on a 6m tower with the LCD hybrid controller and the four flexible panels. Vertical axis was the deciding factor because the wind comes off the ridge from two directions and swaps all day. It has been charging the 48V bank through the cold months without a single service.
