the-second-channel-maxsun-rx580-8gb-graphics-card
The Second Channel | MAXSUN AMD Radeon RX580 8GB Dual-Fan Graphics Card

A graphics card is a clock discipline problem wearing a heatsink. Core frequency of 1244 MHz and memory frequency of 7000 MHz hold only as long as the cooler can pull heat away, which is why the dual-fan assembly on this MAXSUN card carries more weight than the spec sheet suggests.

Silicon for this board is manufactured on a 14 nanometre process and configured with 256-bit memory across a PCI Express 3.0 x16 interface. Display output runs through DVI-I, HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort, and the board takes a single 6-pin auxiliary connector. VR ready is claimed and the card ships without RGB and without a factory overclock.

Output flexibility is the practical advantage over a single-port card. DVI-I still matters to anyone running an older panel, HDMI covers the living-room display, and DisplayPort handles high refresh rates. The three outputs can be used together, which turns the card into a desktop hub rather than a purely gaming part.

The variant range covers the RX5700 8GB and the RX6500XT 4GB, so the same dual-fan platform serves a build that wants maximum memory and a build that wants a compact, lower-draw card.

Clocks are a promise. The cooler is the only part that has to keep it.

Compatibility is the quiet cost of a graphics upgrade. DVI-I is still present on this board, which matters when the monitor on the desk predates DisplayPort, and DisplayPort covers the panel that will eventually replace it. A card that speaks three output standards turns the move between them into a cable change rather than a new purchase.

Build Details

✦ 14nm process silicon with 1244 MHz core and 7000 MHz memory clocks

✦ 256-bit memory interface over PCI Express 3.0 x16

✦ DVI-I, HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort outputs on one board

✦ Dual-fan cooler with a single 6-pin power connector

✦ VR ready configuration, no RGB lighting, no factory overclock

✦ Variant range includes RX5700 8GB and RX6500XT 4GB models

Certified Parameters

Chipset Manufacturer: AMD

Brand: MAXSUN

Chip Process: 14NM

Core Clock: 1244 MHz

Memory Clock: 7000 MHz

Memory Interface: 256-bit

Interface Type: PCI Express 3.0 x16

Output Interfaces: DVI-I, HDMI 1.4 x 1, DisplayPort x 1

Power Connector: 6-pin

Cooler Type: Double fan

Condition: New

Product Category: Desktop graphics cards

What It Is For

The card is aimed at the desktop that has to do several jobs. A gaming tower that also drives a second monitor, a small studio machine running preview renders beside a display tablet, and a home theatre PC that feeds a television over HDMI while keeping DisplayPort free for a monitor are all reasonable homes for it. Buyers who need maximum memory for texture-heavy work should look at the RX5700 8GB variant, while a compact build with a modest power supply is better served by the RX6500XT 4GB.
