the-trail-meridian-trekking-backpack
The Trail Meridian | 25L and 45L Trekking Backpack with Removable Flag Patch

A pack is a promise about how much of the world you can carry. Most of the market is split between daypacks that hold a jacket and water, and expedition sacks that hold everything and weigh nothing less for it. The Trail Meridian is built for the distance in between, where most trips actually live. The 25-litre version measures 40 by 25 by 25 centimetres and suits an afternoon from city to trail. The 45-litre version measures 50 by 30 by 30 centimetres and takes a weekend of clothes, food and a sleeping layer without becoming a burden.

Both share the same construction. The body is a softback polyester shell with a polyester lining, closed by a top zipper and finished with embroidery rather than printed graphics. A soft frame is not a shortcoming here; it is what lets the pack compress down to almost nothing when half loaded and expand when the trip grows. The lining protects the shell from the inside, so a rough-edged tool or a wet stove does not abrade the fabric from within, which is usually what ends a cheap pack's life.

Five colourways are offered, red, green, khaki, white and black, and each carries a removable flag patch held on a hook-and-loop fastener. The patch that arrives depends on the warehouse the order ships from: the ES and US flag from Spain, the UK flag from the United Kingdom, and the US flag from Poland and the United States. It comes off in a second, so the pack can travel as quietly as the wearer prefers. The fit is unisex and the sizing is honest, so a 25-litre load teaches you to pack once and a 45-litre load forgives the extra fleece.

It is not luggage. The first walks or cycles to work with a laptop, a change of clothes and a lunch, and needs a 25-litre pack that looks like a bag rather than a mountaineering rig. The second takes weekend trips by train or budget flight and wants one bag that satisfies a cabin allowance without being a soft trolley. The third hikes and camps in short bursts and wants a pack that can go from a full weekend load to a near-empty daypack without a second purchase. All three are served by the same idea, which is that a pack should change shape with the plan rather than the other way around.

Trekkers' Questions

Q: Which size should I choose, 25L or 45L?

Take the 25-litre for commuting, day walks and short trips where weight matters.
