Description

The aviator jacket has stayed in production for eighty years because the shape solves a real problem: a collar that stands up around the neck, a body that closes tight against wind, and a lining that insulates without adding bulk at the shoulders. The Aviator Hour is that pattern in faux leather with a faux shearling face, sized for women rather than scaled down from a men's flight jacket, and it does the job at a price that does not require treating it as an heirloom.

The outer shell is PU faux leather with the matte, slightly grained hand of a worn jacket rather than the high-gloss finish that reads as costume. The turn-down collar carries the shearling face, which is what frames the neck and the reason this silhouette photographs well; the plush continues through the body lining so the jacket is warm at the torso, where it matters, without quilting the sleeves into something that will not bend at the elbow. A zip front closes to the chin, the waist can be adjusted, and two zip pockets sit at hip height.

Winter wear is where faux leather usually fails, and it fails at the seams and the collar rather than at the panels. This one is built for the layering most people actually do: a knit underneath, the jacket zipped, a scarf optional. It is a streetwear cut, regular through the body with a turn-down collar, so it sits over a hoodie without strain and under a heavier coat on the coldest weeks. The honest caveat, which the manufacturer states plainly, is that a new faux shearling sheds a little loose fibre for the first few wears. That is normal for the material, brushes off, and stops.

Three colourways cover the useful range: brown for the classic flight-jacket read, black for the version that goes with everything, and a shearling beige that leans softer and works with denim and cream. Sizes run S to XL, and stock ships from China or from the Russian Federation warehouse depending on the variant you choose, which is worth checking if delivery time matters more than colour.

A jacket earns its keep in the third winter, not the first photograph.

Key Features

  • Faux shearling faced collar A turn-down collar lined with plush, which frames the neck and does the visual work this silhouette depends on.
  • PU faux leather shell Matte, lightly grained finish that reads as a worn flight jacket rather than a glossy costume piece.
  • Plush body lining Insulation through the torso where warmth is needed, without quilting the sleeves into stiffness.
  • Zip front to the chin Closes against wind in one movement and stays closed, which a button front on this pattern does not.
  • Adjustable waist Draws the body in so the jacket keeps a shape over a knit rather than hanging straight.
  • Two zip pockets Hip height, deep enough for gloves and a phone, and closed so nothing falls out on a bike.
  • Streetwear regular fit Cut for women with room for a hoodie underneath, without the boxiness of a men's pattern.
  • Three colourways Brown, black and shearling beige, plus warehouse options for faster delivery in some regions.

Where It Belongs

This is the jacket for the winter that is cold but not arctic, for city weekends, gigs, and the walk between a car park and a door. It suits the person who wants the aviator silhouette without a four-figure leather jacket, and it layers under a wool overcoat on the weeks when the temperature drops further. The brown reads more classic over denim and boots, the black works with everything including a dress, and the beige is the softer option for daylight and layered knitwear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will the shedding stop?

A: Yes. A new faux shearling sheds loose fibre for the first few wears, which the manufacturer states openly. Brush the collar and lining with a soft clothes brush, avoid wearing it over a white knit for the first week, and it settles.

Q: Is it warm enough for real winter?

A: For autumn and mild winter, yes. The plush lining insulates the torso well but the sleeves are not quilted, so in sustained sub-zero weather it is a mid-layer under a heavier coat rather than a standalone outer layer.

Q: How does the sizing run?

A: Regular, with room through the body for a knit underneath. If you are between sizes and plan to layer a hoodie, take the larger size. The sleeves are cut slightly long, which is correct for a flight jacket pattern.

Q: Can it be machine washed?

A: No. Machine washing breaks down the PU coating and mats the faux shearling. Wipe the shell with a damp cloth, air the lining, and use a specialist faux leather cleaner for marks.

Q: What does shipping from the Russian Federation mean?

A: Some variants are stocked in a Russian warehouse, which shortens delivery for buyers in that region. The product is identical; only the dispatch location and lead time differ.

Q: Does the collar stand up on its own?

A: It stands when zipped to the chin and folds down when open, which is how the pattern is meant to behave. The shearling facing adds enough body to hold the stand without a wire or a stiffener.

Q: Is the faux leather going to peel?

A: PU coated fabric eventually does, and the honest answer is that it lasts years rather than decades. Keeping it out of a hot car and away from radiators is what extends the coating, since heat is what makes it delaminate.

Warm torso, cooler arms

The body lining is genuinely plush and warm. The sleeves are not quilted, so below about five degrees I put a proper coat over it. For autumn and mild winter it is exactly right, and the waist adjustment keeps the shape.

Sheds a little at first, then stops

The manufacturer warns about loose fibre on the first wears and they are right. Brushed the lining twice and it settled within a week. Do not wear it over a cream knit on day one and you will be fine.

The collar does the work

The shearling on the turn-down collar is what makes this look like a proper flight jacket rather than a costume. Brown over dark denim and boots, and it has become the jacket I reach for from October onwards.
