Description

A Modern Vehicle Is Software. Everything Else Is Metal. More than 150 electronic control units now sit behind the dashboard of an average car, and each of them will eventually disagree with another about something. The reader that resolves those arguments is not a luxury; it is the difference between replacing a part and knowing which part to replace. The Autel MaxiCOM MK900-BT exists to end guessing, and it does so at the exact point where a workshop actually works.

The MK900-BT is the direct successor to the MK808BT Pro, and the generational jump is internal rather than cosmetic: an octa-core-class quad-core 1.8GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM running Android 11, displayed on an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen at 1280x800. Coverage now includes DoIP and CAN FD, the two protocols that made older mid-tier scan tools obsolete on post-2020 European and North American platforms. Bi-directional control allows more than 3000 active tests - you command the module rather than merely listening to it - and 40-plus service functions cover the maintenance procedures that pay a workshop's rent: oil reset, EPB, BMS, SAS, DPF regeneration, injector coding, throttle adaptation and more.

The BT in the name is the part technicians notice first. Bluetooth VCI means the tablet stays in your hand while the vehicle is on a lift, and AutoVIN reads the chassis and populates the vehicle profile without a menu crawl. Full-system diagnostics reach every OE-level module, live data graphs and records, and results play back for comparison against a known-good baseline. Add FCA Renault SGW access, WiFi printing, a 7700mAh battery that survives a full shift, and a rear camera for capturing evidence, and the tool stops being a code reader and becomes the workshop's record of truth.

A scan tool tells you what the car says. A diagnostic platform tells you what it means.

Where It Belongs

The Diagnostic Commander is specified by independent workshops that service mixed fleets and cannot justify a flagship platform; by mobile technicians who diagnose on a customer's driveway and need the VCI to stay wireless; and by serious enthusiasts who have outgrown a handheld code reader but not the budget of a dealership tool. It is equally at home in a dealership-adjacent inspection service running pre-purchase reports, a light-commercial shop handling Sprinters and Transit vans, or a European specialist who needs DoIP to reach modules that older tools simply cannot address. Because the tablet holds 64GB of local storage and prints over WiFi, inspection evidence leaves the bay as a document rather than a photograph of a screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does DoIP and CAN FD support actually change day to day?

It changes which vehicles you can service at all. Post-2020 European models increasingly route diagnostics over DoIP instead of legacy CAN, and CAN FD is standard on newer North American platforms. Without both protocols a scan tool cannot reach certain modules, no matter how capable its software otherwise is.

Q: Is this an upgrade from the MK808BT Pro?

Yes. The MK900-BT is the newest base model intended to replace the MK808BT Pro, with a longer battery life, more memory and a faster processor. It also adds both hardware and software capability, including DoIP, WiFi print, pre-scan and post-scan reporting and expanded bi-directional testing.

Q: How many service functions does it cover?

More than 40, including the routine procedures most workshops bill for weekly: oil service reset, EPB, BMS, SAS calibration, DPF regeneration, injector coding and throttle adaptation among them. Combined with 3000-plus active tests, that covers most non-programming workshop work.

Q: Does it need to be connected to the internet while diagnosing?

No. Diagnostics run locally over the supplied Bluetooth VCI. Internet access is used for software updates and for cloud-connected features, and the 1-year free update window keeps both vehicle coverage and functions current for the first year of ownership.

Q: Will it work on my vehicle's brand specifically?

Coverage spans US, Asian and European makes with OE-level access to every electronic system, and the MK900-BT adds FCA Renault SGW access for secure gateway models. If you tell us the make, model and year, we will confirm coverage before dispatch.

Pre and post scan reports are a selling point

I use it for pre-purchase inspections and the pre/post scan reporting turns the visit into a document I can hand the customer. The 8MP rear camera captures evidence directly on the tablet instead of on my phone.

Great tool, Android 11 takes some learning

Coverage is excellent across Asian and European makes and the 8-inch screen is readable in daylight. Coming from a simpler handheld the Android interface took me a couple of days. Once you are used to it, the graphing and playback are very good.

Bluetooth VCI is the whole point

Being able to walk around the lift with the tablet in hand instead of dragging a cable changes how you work. AutoVIN pulled the chassis straight from the car, and the 7700mAh battery genuinely lasts a full shift with WiFi on.

DoIP support paid for itself in a week

I run a small independent shop and two post-2020 European jobs had modules my old reader could not even see. This reaches them over DoIP. The bi-directional tests are the real value - I command the component instead of guessing at it.
