Description

Most properties are watched by a system that was assembled by accident. One camera added after a break-in, another after a delivery went missing, each recorded to a different place. The Perimeter Atlas replaces that arrangement with a single decision made once: eight channels, matching cameras, one recorder, one archive.

The kit pairs an 8-channel NVR with four 8MP 4K smart dual-light turret cameras. Each camera resolves detail at four times the density of a 1080p unit, which is the difference between footage that shows a person and footage that shows a face. Dual-light illumination switches between infrared and white light so colour is available at night, an advantage that matters when you are trying to identify a vehicle rather than notice one. Power over Ethernet carries current and video over a single cable per camera, and 30-metre and 18-metre cable runs are included for a typical installation.

Capacity is left deliberately open. The eight-channel recorder accepts drive configurations with 1 TB or 2 TB fitted, or you can supply your own storage, which is the right answer when retention policy is set by an insurer. Four camera positions ship with the kit and the remaining four channels stay free, so a second building or a rear gate can be added later without replacing the recorder.

A perimeter is a decision you make once, and then review three weeks later.

Where It Belongs

This kit fits the property that needs a complete answer on day one. A home with a driveway, a front path, a side gate, and a rear garden has four positions covered immediately, and the recorder keeps four channels in reserve for a garage or a second entrance. Small commercial premises use the same kit across a shopfront, a back door, a storage area, and a loading position. Because the cameras are PoE, installation stays to a single cable per position, which shortens the job and removes the need for an electrician at each camera location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many cameras are included?

Four 8MP 4K smart dual-light turret cameras are included, and the recorder supports eight channels in total.

Q: Do the cameras record at night?

Yes. The cameras use dual-light illumination that switches between infrared and white light, so colour detail remains available after dark.

Q: Do I need a power outlet at each camera?

No. The cameras are powered over Ethernet, so each position needs only one cable back to the recorder.

Q: What storage comes with the kit?

Configurations with 1 TB or 2 TB drives fitted are available, and you can also order the recorder without a drive and install your own.

Q: Can I add more cameras later?

Yes. Four channels remain free after the four included cameras are connected.

Q: How long are the included cables?

30 metre and 18 metre cable runs are supplied, which cover a typical single-building installation.

Q: Does the recorder need an internet connection?

No. Recording and local viewing work without one. A network connection is used when you want remote access to the footage.

Q: Is this suitable for a small business rather than a home?

Yes. The same kit is commonly installed across a shopfront, a back entrance, a storage room, and a loading position, and the four spare channels allow the layout to grow.

Q: What happens during a power cut?

The recorder resumes recording when power returns. For uninterrupted coverage through an outage, pair it with an uninterruptible power supply, which is a standard addition for commercial installations.

Take the 2TB option or supply your own drive

Eight 4K channels fill storage faster than most people expect, and the base configuration only makes sense if you are comfortable adding your own drive and setting a retention policy. Mine has run for six weeks without a dropped frame, and phone playback is quick enough to check something while standing in the driveway. Plan the camera positions before drilling, because the 8MP field of view is wider than the lens number suggests and two of mine overlapped more than intended. The recorder fan is quiet enough to live in a hallway cupboard.

Four cameras, one afternoon, faces instead of shapes

The previous setup was a 1080p camera on the garage and a doorbell that recorded to a phone, and neither would have identified anyone at night. The 4K turrets show a face at the gate where the old camera showed a silhouette, and the dual-light switching to white when something moves makes a number plate readable rather than a guess. PoE meant one cable per camera and the supplied thirty metre run reached the back fence without a join. The four spare channels are already earmarked for the second building.

Solid kit, take the larger drive option

The smaller drive configuration fills faster than I expected with four 8MP cameras running continuously. Everything else about the kit has been reliable in daily use.

Detail you can actually use

Compared with my old 1080p setup the difference is obvious. You can read a number plate at the gate, which was the entire point of replacing the old system.

Four cameras covered the whole property

Driveway, front door, side gate, and garden are all covered, with four channels left over for a garage later. The colour image at night is what convinced me. One cable per camera made the install straightforward.
