the-rolling-standard-swivel-caster-set
The Rolling Standard | TPR Rubber Swivel Casters with Brake Options

Everything Heavy Eventually Has to Move. Shelving, workbenches, trolleys and planters all sit still until someone decides they should not, and that decision is made by four small wheels. The Rolling Standard is a swivel caster built around a TPR soft-rubber wheel on a 51 by 72mm fixing plate, rated to carry 30 to 50 kilograms.

Soft rubber is the choice that matters. Hard nylon wheels roll easily and then mark every floor they cross; TPR rubber grips, absorbs shock and stays quiet on tile, laminate and concrete. The universal mount swivels a full turn, so a platform trolley steers instead of being dragged. Sizes run at 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 2 inch: the small wheels suit low furniture and light shelving, the 2 inch takes benches and heavier carts where a rough floor would otherwise stop them.

Brake configuration is the detail most buyers only think about after the first accident. Each size is available as a four-piece set without brakes, a set with brakes, or a mixed set of braking and free-rolling wheels so a trolley can be steered at one end and locked at the other. Plates, bolts and swivel housings arrive ready to fit.

Fitting casters is a fifteen-minute job with one decision in it. The plate has to sit flat against the frame, which means the surface behind it must be sound; a plate screwed to a thin panel or a loose leg will work itself free under load. The fixing plate measures 51 by 72 millimetres, so check that there is enough flat area before ordering, and use four screws per caster rather than two. Brake wheels go at the end of the unit that gets handled, free-rolling wheels at the end that gets steered, which is the arrangement that makes a loaded trolley behave.

Mobility is a decision. Workbenches in a garage become repositionable. Heavy planters and shelving can be pulled out for cleaning without being emptied. Bedside cabinets and storage carts gain brakes so they stay where they are put. The mixed brake sets matter most on trolleys that are steered from one end and need to lock at the other, which is the arrangement that prevents a loaded cart from rolling away on a slight slope.

Fitting Notes

Raise the unit on blocks before fitting so all four plates can be aligned while it is level, then fit the diagonally opposite corners first. Use screws long enough to reach sound material and washers to spread the load on thin frames. On carpet, the 2 inch wheel is the practical choice since a smaller diameter will catch. After fitting, load the unit and check that no plate has shifted; if the trolley pulls to one side, the cause is nearly always a plate that is not sitting flat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much weight can one set carry?

The rated load bearing is 30 to 50 kilograms per set, depending on the wheel size.
