the-still-basin-automatic-foam-soap-dispenser
The Still Basin | USB-C Automatic Foam Soap Dispenser in Matte ABS

A basin is a small architecture, and the hand decides whether it works. Every pump handle in a shared bathroom is a surface that four hundred people have already touched before you arrived. The Still Basin removes that contact entirely: a hand enters the sensing field, foam arrives, the hand leaves. There is nothing to press, nothing to grip, and nothing to wipe down between visits.

The mechanism is a rechargeable electric pump rather than a manual one, which changes the texture of the experience more than the specification sheet suggests. A foam dispenser mixes air into the liquid soap as it pumps, so a smaller volume of soap covers more skin and rinses faster than a gel. Because it runs on an internal cell charged over USB, there is no battery hatch to corrode in a wet room and no cable trailing across a wet counter — charge it overnight, then it lives on the sink unplugged.

The housing is matte ABS, a material chosen for kitchens and bathrooms because it resists the standing moisture and the mild cleaning agents that eat through gloss finishes within a season. Two finishes are offered so the unit can either disappear against a stone counter or sit forward as an object in its own right. The footprint is deliberately narrow — a dispenser that occupies the front third of a basin is a dispenser that gets moved aside and eventually left unplugged in a drawer.

Hygiene is not a feature you switch on. The more valuable setting is the semi-public washroom: a studio, a clinic waiting room, a restaurant back-of-house, a short-let apartment where the host is not present to wipe handles between guests. In those rooms a manual pump is a hygiene liability that nobody logs, whereas a touchless unit is a silent improvement that guests notice without being able to name. Kitchens benefit for a different reason — cooking hands are messy hands, and a dispenser that responds to the back of a wrist keeps the reservoir clean. Because the unit charges over USB rather than running a permanent cable, it can be moved between rooms without an electrician, which is the deciding factor in rented spaces.

Bathroom Questions

Q: Does it work with thick gel soap?

A: Foam dispensers want a thinner liquid than a gel pump. Many owners dilute liquid soap with water following the ratio on the soap bottle, which also stretches the reservoir. Thick gels can clog the aerator.

Q: How often does it need charging?

A: Runtime depends on how many actuations the room sees. In a family bathroom a charge typically lasts several weeks; in a busy washroom expect more frequent top-ups. Charging is over USB, so a power bank works in a pinch.

Q: Can it sit next to a shower without damage?

A: The ABS shell handles splashes and standing humidity.
